Oh boy has it been a while since my last post. I am very inconsistent with these things so don't expect a post a day. Even if I set that as my goal it's more likely to be a post every other day or even once a week meaning I can't promise a new recipe a dish up on the blog everyday. Moving on, today on the menu we have Chinese porridge! Never tried it, but does' Chinese food really ever taste bad? I think not and today we shall prove that when I don't try this dish... but when I eventually do it'll taste amazing, I hope. Chinese Porridge or congee as it's called is a century old dish that was believed to date back as far as 1000 B.C. This means it came about around the Zhou dynasty in China and according to A Zhou book it was first made by Huang Di with millet. The name congee however has tamil origins, as the dish was popular with many of the Tamil people at that time. Even in todays society, congee is eaten very commonly by the Chinese and other places across the world. It is often used to help the sickly regain strength because or the many herbs added to the porridge. congee usually comes in 2 different forms of either water or thick, however, it is not uncommon to make extremly water congee. Rice is often used as the porridge base you could say after it is boiled for a significant amount of time in water. Without anything added to it, congee is very bland as you can imagine, but the special part about congee is that you can literally have about as much fun as you want with the dish and it'll still taste awesome and work pretty well as a natural medicine. Mushrooms, pork, beef, fish, bamboo shoots, herbs, fruits, cinammon, spice, and everything nice, the list goes on and on. Experimentation almost always leads to benefit with this dish. Congee is often eaten for breakfast in China, but apparently it can be found almost anytime selling on the streets. I know where I'm going for spring break... Whether it's a remedy for someone down with the sniffles, or just to warm you up in the morning, congee is a great dish. Now go make some congee! https://www.thespruce.com/basic-congee-recipes-4065244
